Merry Christmas!

My husband has to work today, so we got up around 6:00am to let the kids open their presents. This is the first Christmas he won't be here with us. It makes me sad, but I have so much to be thankful for. At least he will only be gone for 24 hours and not for months at a time. I can't even imagine how it must be for the families who have a loved one in the service who are station so far away.

Christmas Cookies

Every year around this time I try to bake a good batch of Chocolate Chip Cookies. One of my favorite memories of my childhood was making Chocolate Chip Cookies with my Dad. It was something we did every year. For some reason when I make an effort to make my own cookies using his recipe my first batch turns out terrible.

First batch of cookies not so great!

Second batch of cookies....YUMMY!

Fireproof | Caleb's Apology

I love this movie!

I really like how Caleb apologizes with out laying blame on her, they both made mistakes but he truly used Gods Grace to apologize from the heart!

HD Casting Crowns "Slow Fade" [Official Music Video]

The words to this song are so true and so real. Why can't people just realize there's a price for everything we do? The message in this song has great meaning!

Fireproof | The Cross

This is my one of my favorite parts of this movie. It really drives home the concept of God's unconditional love.

Fireproof | Salt & Pepper Shakers

"Fireproof doesn't mean that a fire will never come, but that when it comes you'll be able to withstand it" That is very true.

Hummingbird Tattoo

Well, I did it! I got a tattoo of a hummingbird. It really wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. The process was more aggravating than painful. Don't get me wrong there is some pain involved, but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle.
Ronnie Harness, the owner of LC Ink in Lenoir City did it and he did an awesome job! :)

Daddy's Girl

My Daddy is in the hospital tonight. The doctor's aren't sure what is wrong with him, but they believe he may have Lyme Disease.

Me and my Dad
"Pooh, promise you won't forget about me, ever.

Not even when I'm a hundred."

Pooh thought for a little.

"How old shall I be then?"

"Ninety-nine."

Pooh nodded.

"I promise," he said.

Still with his eyes on the world

Christopher Robin put out a hand and felt Pooh's paw.

"Pooh," said Christopher Robin earnestly, "if I--

if I'm not quite--" he stopped and tried again--

"Pooh, whatever happens, you will understand won't you?"

"Understand what?"

"Oh nothing." He laughed and jumped to his feet.

"Come on!"

"Where?" said Pooh.

"Anywhere," said Christopher Robin.

So they went off together.  But wherever they go,

and whatever happens to them on the way,

in that enchanted place on the top of the Forest,

a little boy and his bear will always be playing.

Trip to Pigeon Forge, TN

David and I went away for the weekend for our 12th Anniversary! Our Anniversary isn't until August 7, but we wanted to go before the kids went back to school. We stayed at the Wilderness of the Smokies. It has 3 indoor water parks and we had a great time! We went to the Comedy Barn, Black Bear Jamboree Dinner and Show, WonderWorks, and to the Titanic Museum.
We also did a little shopping at Tanger Outlets. :)

Nick's 5th Birthday

My little boy is 5 years old! It really seems like yesterday when he was born. He has come such a long way.

You Know You're a Firefighter's Wife If

Your Husband's wardrobe looks like this: non-descriptive bottoms paired with any navy blue shirt with a fire department logo on it.

Your Husband's haircut is "nice and tight".

You know the difference between a police siren and a fire siren.

Your kids think the fire station is "Daddy's house".

You know that all of your smoke detectors work.

Your Husband will not let you near the BBQ.

You know that you always have a team of highly-trained ems professionals at moments notice (you know, in case a baby falls down the stairs or something).

You know that it is faster and waaaay better to take the ambulance to the hospital (NEVER go it solo, and actually WAIT in the waiting room!).

Your single friends are always asking "are there any single firemen at Hubby's work?".

Your children can make good use of vacuum hoses and rubber gloves.

Everybody knows a Firefighter, and will assume that you know them too.

You find it hard to sleep when your Hubby is at work.

You get severely angry when people don't pull over for firetrucks and ambulances.
You get to listen to stories about fires, mva's and ems assist calls.

You've seen Back-draft 40 million times and Ladder 49 10 million (but who can get sick of staring at Joaquin Phoenix and John Travolta?).

You've had some of the best holiday meals at the fire station.

You've lost all sense of what a "weekend" really is due to your husband's crazy schedule.

Your husband gets to go on field trips & to preschool once in a while.

All of the teachers want your husband to "demonstrate" his skills for the class.

You feel like the luckiest girl alive when he comes home off shift and sends your heart a-flutter.

Happy Father's Day to my favorite Firefighter!

I love You More!

Birthday/Graduation

My wonderful husband threw me a 30th Birthday/Graduation cookout with the family. He is such a sweetheart! :)

House Fire

It will be two years on June 18, 2010, when we lost our own house to a fire. Its still hard for me to believe how everything can change in what felt like seconds.

When I see or hear about a house burning, I still get chills and remember the fear and panic that I felt on that day.

When David leaves to go on a structure fire, I worry even more now than I ever did before.

"We're safe, we're careful" he says. Blah blah blah blah blah.

Yeah, but the bottom line is, however cliche it may sound, that they go in when everybody else runs out...and that is why fire isn't easy for me to watch.

College Graduation

On Friday, June 4, 2010, I graduated from National College of Business and Technology with an Associates of Science Degree in Computer Applications Technology! :) I would not have been able to achieve this without having the support and encouragement from my hubby and kids!

My 30th Birthday

Today is my 30th Birthday! I remember when my Mom turned 30 years old and I believe she even cried that day. When I was a kid turning 30 seemed to be such an old age. But, now that I'm here, I'm thankful to be turning 30. God has blessed me to be a year older. Another birthday to celebrate with my husband and kids.

Some people-particularly women view the day they turn 30 with dread. They see everything slipping away-the proverbial ‘through their fingers’ so to speak.
Like one women turning 30 years old relayed, I have truly accomplished all the things I wanted to do by now but I feel....well, I feel as if I am losing something important; Youth!

My husband and I have been joking around saying the lines from the Friends TV show where they all turn 30 and Joey cries " Why, God, why?! We had a deal let the others grow old not me! "

Here’s my favorite quote on the subject, written by Robert Heinlein in Stranger in a Strange Land:
"Anyone can see a pretty girl. An artist can look at a pretty girl and see the old woman she will become. A better artist can look at an old woman and see the pretty girl she used to be. A great artist can look at an old woman, portray her exactly as she is...and force the viewer to see the pretty girl she used to be...more than that, he can make anyone see that this lovely young girl is still alive, prisoned inside her ruined body. He can make you feel the quiet, endless tragedy that there was never a girl born who ever grew older than eighteen in her heart...no matter what the merciless hours have done.

Brotherhood

It is most certainly like a brotherhood. If there is some sort of repair that is needed at your home, there is a fireman that knows how to do it. Alot of the time they will give you a deal or swap you a shift for the work. If there is some sort of accident with one of the fireman. The others will pull together and donate their vacation time or do whatever they can to help.

Happy Mother's Day

I hope all of you Mom's have a wonderful Mother's Day!

Helpful Tips that I found online

Here are some tips to get you through those tough, lonely times:

1. Don't try to change him. He's going to be a firefighter and there isn't really a lot you can do about it. He will be dedicated to his mission as a member of the fire department. It's something that you have to learn to around.

2. Get some hobbies of your own. The more you sit around waiting on him to come home, the more chance there is of you getting angrier by the minute. Go shopping or visit friends. Do something that you have wanted to do for a long time and have put off.

3. Get into your firefighters head. The more you understand about what they are doing the more you will love and respect him for it. They are a rare breed and you should treat them as the gem they really are.

4. Be happy that they are at the firehouse. I know this seems like a ridiculous idea, however, would you rather them be out drinking or with other women? I would much rather have fire as his mistress than another person.

5. This is the most important thing of all. Every time your firefighter goes out the door on a call, do not roll your eyes or get mad at him for it. Give him a hug and kiss and tell him you love him. You never know what might happen when they are out there. What do you want to be the last memory of you together? Besides which, do you really want them to have something bad on their mind when they are getting ready to go into a dangerous situation? Getting angry with them only makes their job more dangerous because they are then worrying about you instead of focusing on their job.

Married to a fireman

Hollywood will make the life of a fireman to be wonderful and filled with drama, but it's not all that. Picture more of a lonely life where it is you and your children most of the time. Your husband is always either on his way to an emergency call or coming back from one. It is a life of uncertainty. Family time may be interrupted at a moments notice or dinner dates canceled because a call ran longer than he had expected.

I am extremely proud of my husband and what he does but its not without sacrifice. I've been asked if its hard to be a fireman's wife, but its the fear of the job that most people are talking about. That part you tend to stick in the back of your mind. Its always there, but if your always worried about that, it will consume you. So, for me the hardest part about being a fireman's wife is the lonely nights and the constant interruption of life.

When I read about a family where the husband is in the military I thank God that I at least get my husband home a few times a week because not having my husband, best friend, and father to my children there with me for months or even years would be heart breaking and very difficult.

I am trying to be more thankful for the time we have together for you never know when that time maybe gone.
